J'ai laissé quelques jours passer avant d'écrire ce nouvel article, qui sera lui aussi dévolu à la cause birmane. Rien ne sert de se mettre les nerfs en boule quand l'on voit avec quelle facilité le monde a oublié le concept d'"urgence humanitaire", en tout cas en ce qui concerne la Birmanie : personne ne s'affole plus de savoir que des centaines de milliers de birmans n'ont ni logement ni de quoi se nourrir depuis plus de deux semaines maintenant. Bernard Kouchner est le seul qui ait officiellement employé le terme de "non-assistance à personnes en danger". Il faut appeler un chat un chat : c'est exactement ce à quoi oublier le peuple birman aujourd'hui revient. Et c'est exactement ce que nombre de birmans essaient de nous dire en nous appelant à l'aide. Oui, ils nous appellent à l'aide. Nous pouvons fermer les yeux, nous pouvons tout faire pour ne pas nous sentir concernés, mais le fait est que le peuple birman compte sur nous pour plaider sa cause auprès de nos médias et gouvernements. Pour acheminer une aide humanitaire de force, d'une part. Pour renverser la junte militaire au pouvoir, qui a volé sa présidence à Aung San Suu Kyi en 1990, d'autre part. Il est vrai qu'il est assez difficile de cautionner (pour moi) toutes les pincettes que les Nations Unies ont choisi de prendre pour négocier et brosser dans le sens du poil cette clique de dirigeants, parvenus au sommet par le sang et le soutien du PC chinois uniquement. Il est assez difficile de comprendre (pour moi) pourquoi tant d'égards sont nourris à l'endroit de cette junte plutôt qu'à celui d'Aung San Suu Kyi, emprisonnée (oh pardon : en résidence surveillée) depuis 18 ans, et de tous ceux qui sont régulièrement faits prisonniers politiques. Non, c'est sûr, je ne comprends pas tout. Le peuple birman, plus désemparé que jamais, non plus. Bien sûr, je sais lire entre les lignes : pour autant faudrait-il que je tolère ? Cette dictature ne mérite pas tous les honneurs qui lui sont faits. Pire, ils constituent un affront au peuple qui, d'une seule voix, avait porté, il y a moins de 20 ans, Aung San Suu Kyi et la Ligue Nationale pour la Démocratie au pouvoir.

Voici des phrases de birmans extraites de la pétition lancée à l'attention de Monsieur Ban Ki Moon, secrétaire général des Nations Unies. Je pourrais me contenter de dire quelque chose comme "on ne pourra pas dire qu'on ne savait pas". Simplement, je n'ai pas envie d'attendre 20 ans avant que s'apitoyer sur le drame birman et condamner la cruauté des crimes perpétrés par les militaires ne reviennent à la mode. C'est aujourd'hui que notre conscience, notre morale, notre humanité, sont sollicitées. Pas une fois que tout le mal sera fait, même si attendre sans rien faire, pour déplorer ensuite l'ampleur d'une tragédie, est bien plus facile. Malheureusement, je ne suis personne. Les montagnes que je déplace ici et là ne me permettent que des avancées de fourmi. Espérons que les mots des birmans, qui ont pris le risque de signer de leur nom cette pétition internationale, seront entendus. Si vous doutez de la teneur de certaines supplications, je vous renvoie aux numéros de signature que j'ai ici conservés : vous pourrez vérifier par vous-mêmes que la détresse et la révolte exprimées sont bien réelles et non montées de toute pièce.

The junta isn't charged for the crime against humanitarian. They are still ruling the country with iron fist and still committing inhuman crimes on starving victims. I, hereby, do request the Veto-holding Nations, China and Russia, to force junta by any means to accept international rescue team. People are suffering seconds by seconds. We have no time to lose.

6909.     Dear Mr. Ban Ki Moon, seems Burmese people are very patient waiting for your constructive decision and action, while thousands are dying. Now, it is beyond the limit but they are still hoping from you (UN), and thousands more are still dying. And how may thousands of thousands need to die to receive an effective action. Note; hundred of thousands will be dying soon.

6248.     I STRONGLY URGE UN TO INTERVENE, TIME IS RUNNING SHORT TO SAVE LIVES.

4522.     UN should not wait to enter Burma to help the people, and should not wait for the response from the inhumane and uneducated leaders. They are having all the great times they can have, and the citizens and people are the ones suffering for the consequences.

Est-ce que vous imaginez seulement ce qui arrivera aux auteurs des commentaires de cette pétition si elle parvient entre les mains d'un militaire, un seul ?  Nous nous devons de les écouter. L'ONU a déjà perdu de son poids en démontrant qu'elle ne pouvait empêcher une guerre en Irak pourtant illégitime. Elle perdra tout son sens à mes yeux si elle abandonne aujourd'hui, UNE FOIS DE PLUS, le peuple birman.
